Community Outreach

Scouts dayWLOY Loyola Radio strives to use its influence to reach out and give back to the community in and out of the station. In the studio, we’ve created the What Happens Next? radio program in which elementary school students get to go a step beyond their classroom resources, improving their creative writing skills while getting an inside look at radio broadcasting.

WLOY reaches out to the Baltimore community, hosting summer radio boot camps for Middle Grades Partnership students, the CHOICE Program for high schoolers and more.  WLOY additionally places programs directly in public schools for students through the Radio Edu program.

WLOY regularly hosts guests such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Webelos and more. Our staff also visit area schools to talk about radio, audio and paths to college.

Our community programs and alumni were recently highlighted in the Loyola alumni magazine which can be found here.

Below are some of the programs at WLOY as we work year-round to benefit the community with more than just great music:

As an incoming freshmen, I’m very interested in several of these programs. How do I get involved?

Just shoot us an email at wloy@loyola.edu and we’ll connect! If you will be at any of the accepted students events over the summer we will be there too and you’re welcome to come visit the station while you’re here 🙂

  2. Hi there!

I’m with Ripefruit.org, a Baltimore-based, nonprofit which started in 2022. We are adding Neurodiversity to the DEI conversation to reach underserved communities. We have bi-monthly virtual talks with local industry experts. Our next discussion is Feb. 25 at 11 AM and the following one is April 22–and we want to get the word out. We are reaching out to local radio stations for assistance with spreading the word! I want to ask if you all do a Public Service Announcement?

    Thank you very much!
